Becoming a Driving Instructor
You will need to have held a UK or European Union (EU/European Economic Area (EEA) unrestricted car driving licence for at least 4 out of the past 6 years and have not been disqualified for driving at any time in the last 4 years. You must be a "fit and proper" person. More>>
There are 3 tests to pass to become a Driving Instructor
Part One (Theory Test)
The Part One test is made up of 100 multiple choice questions (the pass mark is 85) and 14 Hazard Perception clips - 13 clips have 1 hazard and 1 clip has 2 hazards - each hazard scoring a maximum of 5 points each = 75 in total (the pass mark is 57). More>>
Part Two (Driving Test)
The Part Two test starts with an eyesight check. You must be able to read a number plate at a minimum distance of 27.5 metres (90 feet) and then you will be asked 5 Show me / Tell me questions about your vehicle. You must drive in a brisk, business like manner, showing expert handling of the car. You are allowed a maximum of 6 driving (minor) faults, but NO serious or dangerous faults. More>>
Part Three (Instructional Ability Test)
The Part Three test is to assess the quality of your instruction and your ability to pass your knowledge to your pupils. The test is in two parts, each lasting about half an hour. You must pass both parts on the same test. More>>
